Faith...
Catechetical ministry is a share in Jesus own mission of proclaiming the kingdom of God. It enables faith to become living, conscious and active through instruction. Catechesis is a life-long process for each individual as well as the work of the entire Catholic parish community.

The Church teaches that the primary responsibility for the spiritual growth and development of children rests first and foremost with the parents. Parents share this responsibility with others, but they do not relinquish it.

Our parish assists you, parents, in passing on your faith through our religious education program. Catechists echo the Catholic faith in a way the children can understand. Catechists do more than merely teach about the faith; they help children grow in their relationship with Jesus and the Church.

Our parish catechist are all volunteers, from many walks of life. They are faith-filled people who have answered a call to minister to our children and have been prepared and educated to serve as catechists.

S A C R E M E N T S
Baptism...
is the basis of our Christian life. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God. We are brought into the Church. Parents should call the parish office four months in advance of the requested date for a baptism. An interview with a priest of the parish and Baptismal Catechesis with the parents must precede Baptism. At least one parent must be a registered and practicing Catholic of San Antonio Parish. At least one godparent must be a practicing and registered Catholic.

Confirmation...
is the gift of continued empowerment of mission in the Church through the Holy Spirit which was begun at Baptism. Students are requested to attend two years of religious education classes. Adults are asked to participate in R.C.I.A. preparation.

Eucharist...
is the heart and summit of the life of the Church. Through the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ, Christians are led to a deeper relationship with Christ and with one another. Parents and children participate in special preparatory programs for the Sacraments of Initiation.

Reconciliation...
Reconciliation provides for us a personal encounter with Christ and a celebration of God's unconditional love and forgiveness. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM, until all are heard, or by special appointment with the priest.

Anointing of the sick...
confers a special grace on Christians suffering illness of any kind (physical or emotional), persons about to have surgery or those of advancing age. This sacrament is offered during a monthly Mass of Anointing on the last Wednesday of the month. Special requests for anointing at other times should be directed to the Parish office.

Marriage...
is a covenant between a man and a woman establishing an intimate partnership of love for their whole lives. Couples seeking the Sacrament of Matrimony must be practicing Catholics (at least one party) who have been registered at San Antonio parish at least six months. Contact the parish office at least 12 months in advance of the requested date to schedule marriage preparation classes.

Priesthood...
A special vocation that goes as far back as the Apostles. The Bishops' Committee on Vocations presents a program for priests to actively invite men to consider a vocation to the priesthood. This program is entitled Priestly Life and Vocations Summit: Fishers of Men. This project is a presbyteral workshop which utilizes the appreciative inquiry method of asking priests about their most positive experiences in the priesthood.

Parents are asked to support, cooperate with and pray for our parish catechists! as catechists
